QTA Partners with Ride of Champions
2-year partnership to support position and market the cycling event internationally
The Qatar Cyclists, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Sport, are proud to announce Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) as the presenting partner of the Ride of Champions for both the 2017 and 2018 editions.
Dr. Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, President of Qatar Cyclists commented saying, “Thanks to QTA’s support, we are now able to invest in marketing and positioning the event on the international stage to turn it not only into Qatar’s, but hopefully the region’s, premier celebration of amateur and, in time, elite cycling.” He continued, “We will be able to develop captivating audio and visual content to position and market the event internationally in future years, as well as invest more heavily in marketing this year’s event to cycling fans in Oman, Kuwait and the wider region.”
Rashed AlQurese, Chief Marketing & Promotion Officer at QTA commented, “Sport has unique power in bringing people from around the world together. Our support for the development of The Ride of Champions for the upcoming two editions comes as part of our commitment to nurture Qatari-owned and operated events that are aligned with our sports tourism strategy for attracting more sports visitors to the country.” He continued, “We are particularly proud to be partnering with Qatar Cyclists as they have been instrumental in the country’s hosting of the UCI Road Cycling World Championships in 2016, during which it demonstrated its ambition to host mass participation cycling events in Qatar.”
2017 Ride of Champions
The 2017 Ride of Champions event, being held on Friday, 24 November, includes three events for experienced adult cyclists (48km, 78km and 137.5km) which will all start at 6:30am. They will cycle a 5.8km loop, totally closed to traffic, in the area around Qatar Foundation and Al Shaqab. Riders can complete as many loops as they like until 11:00am.
All events will be based out of Qatar Foundation’s ceremonial court. Cycling fans, families and supporters can also join in the fun and enjoy live music, a farmer’s market, food stands. Temporary bike shops with mechanics and sponsor booths will also be set up at the court.
Additionally, there are kids’ events for children under the age of 8 who would like to ride in Qatar Foundation’s Oxygen Park. Kids will be able to compete against each other in short races around the park, under the supervision of their parents or guardians.
